8 reasons to carry a camera everywhere

July 20th, 2010 § 33 Comments

If I leave the house without my camera, I feel like I’m missing a piece of myself. I know not everyone feels that way, so here are some more visual reasons to have it with you at all times:

With your trusty camera at your side you -

1. – are always able to capture those special memories as they happen.

2. – will never miss a sunset!

3. – will begin to notice the beautiful details in the things we take for granted.

4. – can capture amusing occurrences as they happen.

5. – can take portraits of your new friends…

6. – …and of your old friends.

7. – will always be prepared if you run into a cute couple standing in front of an iconic London skyline blanketed in puffy clouds.

8. – can live every moment of your life as a precious piece of art.

What do you use from day to day? SLR? Point and shoot? Cameraphone?

I love it & have found a kindred spirit :)

I just got a DSLR but still have my Sony P&S as a backup. It was much easier to take pictures while driving or taking people pics.

I’m not great on using my phone unless it is to take pictures. In fact, although family and friends tell me I should upgrade to the iPhone I want to wait until the xperiax10 comes to AT&T. 8MP & image stabilizer! Okay, I’m done.

I love photography, and I absolutely HEART this list! Photo #2 is especially moving – I love your POV and the silhouette.

BTW, thanks for visiting my #31DBBB post :)

  • Kelly says:

    I love these !!!

  • Mellisa says:

WOW – those photos are amazing! I use my Iphone day to day but have a point and shoot – I am thinking of buying a real life camera…but not sure what to invest my money in…what do you use?

    • Vrinda says:

      Thank you so much!
Some of these were taken with my baby point and shoot, which is easy to slip in a pocket, one on my phone, but most are with my 450D.
What kind of camera are you interested in buying?

  • Emily says:

absolutely gorgeous! i have an SLR, but i think i need a digital point-and-shoot for when i want to be less conspicuous :-)

  • Brooke says:

The dandelion… breathless. Seriously, I can picture myself laying in the grass and looking over to see the sun blaze through it. Wonderful capture.

  • Great shots! Great post! Point well taken. I carry my Canon 50D with me everywhere. It’s never further than my car, and that’s only if were in a movie or restaurant.

  • Sandy says:

I always have my camera too! Usually my point and shoot, since the DSLR is bulky and the camera phone is horrible!

    Great list!

  • Hah! I love the photo of the two guys laying on the bench. I actually really like them all, but that particular image is the one that inspires me to take a camera along with me wherever I go. Thanks for the post. :)

    • Vrinda says:

Hehe, they were such a funny pair. I was waiting for my friend to arrive and watched them sleep there for at least 20 minutes. Finally one woke up, looked at his watch, and they both left. I was so curious as to what they were doing there!

Thank you for your comment, I’d love to see what comes of you carrying a camera!

  • JennyB says:

#8- Seeing your life as art is exactly why I always have my point & shoot with me. I love catching my kids doing something great, though I’ve also documented their tantrums or general crankiness for balance.

    Very nice work!

  • Great list post, and awesome pictures btw.
If I’m going anywhere, even just to my local park I’ll take my trusty camera along, you never know what you might see that worth that shot :)

  • Michelle says:

What beautiful photographs and fantastic reasons to carry a camera!

  • Oh these pictures are absolutely breathtakingly beautiful! This is a fantastic list post for 31DBBB. Very well done!

  • Beautiful pictures! Great moments always seem to happen when I forget my camera!

  • Great, great, great! I am always the one with the camera and my friends hate me. But the other day I pulled out a book of photos from a few years ago and everyone was thrilled.

I try and always keep my camera with me and one of the things my phone has to have is a half decent camera just in case!

    • Vrinda says:

Hehe, it’s always the way. People don’t always appreciate the rewards of having a camera and photographer around until they see the results. I make sure to upload the best photos of my friends to facebook so they can look and share, and now they love having me and my camera around and are always telling me which photos they want me to upload for them, or sometimes which ones they never want to see the light of day…

  • [...] 8 reasons to carry a camera everywhere – I’m a huge advocate of the camera must go everywhere and this post says it all! [...]

  • Erin says:

Great list! I’m a big supporter of taking pictures of the everyday things and you seem to be too :] Love it.

    • Vrinda says:

      Thank you!
Yes, I’m definitely a supporter of the everyday! I love to see the specialness and beauty in what could otherwise be deathly dull.

  • Megan says:

I love this post. LOVE. IT. What great pictures!

I use a point and shoot, I guess. How sad that I’m not even sure if it’s considered that. LOL I also use the camera on my phone A LOT.

    • Vrinda says:

      Thank you so much Megan!
What camera do you have? I’m a big fan of using anything you have to hand, flash new camera, ancient old one, or a cameraphone. Each brings their own unique qualities to the photos.

  • Clarabela says:

What lovely photos! I am not much of a photographer. I don’t even own a real camera. But as the owner of a new iPhone, I am thinking about the possibilities I might find to start taking more pictures.

    Thanks for this wonderful post.

    • Vrinda says:

Clarabela, thank you for your kind comment!

I’ve seen some beautiful photos taken on iPhones, and with an iPhone you have the added bonus of always having the camera to hand when you see something to take a photo of. I’ve noticed in iPhone photo groups on flickr (like this one), that there seems to be a wonderful amount of attention being paid to the little things in the photographer’s day-to-day life. I like that!

  • I always take my point and shoot in my handbag because it’s so tiny and easy to chuck in there. I take my DSLR out a lot too but it requires more effort to carry it!

Pleased to find another UK blogger through SITS! Following you now!

    Have a lovely weekend,
    Jade

    • Vrinda says:

A point and shoot is so much easier to carry, as well as being more discrete to pull out and start snapping with! I’ve just trained myself to carry big, big bags so I can have my 450D on me.

I’m glad to find another UK blogger also, following you too!

  • Holly says:

Thanks for following me on my blog. I am soooo new and it means lots to me. Your site is beautiful….the photos are breathtaking. Thanks again so much.

  • Michelle says:

    Hi Vrinda,
Found you through the 31DBBB. You are an AMAZING photographer. I LOVE these pictures, especially the one with the sun in the background. All of them are beautiful. Even though I am an amateur (you may not even be able to call me that), there have been so many times that I have wished that I had my camera with me. Thanks for the reminder!

  • These photos are really, really beautiful. You’ve inspired me to carry my camera everywhere. Thank you.
